How many sessions will I need?
The length of relationship will depend upon the nature of the problem. Just a few sessions might be enough to support you during a particularly difficult time or perhaps you need to deal with a more difficult issue that will take longer. Ultimately it is your decision which I will discuss with you.
How much does it cost?
A one hour session costs £45. I do offer concessions to counselling students and the unemployed. If you wish to book a block of 6 sessions and are able to take them over 6 consecutive weeks you can pay £240 up front. I accept cash, cheques and bank transfer, although a bank transfer would need to be made before the session.
What happens at the consultation session?
This gives me the opportunity to talk you through the process of counselling and how I work, including confidentiality and what this means. You will also have the opportunity to tell me what bought you to counselling and we can talk about how we might work together.
Will I need to sign a contract?
I will talk you through a working agreement so you will fully understand what you can expect from counselling and my service. However you are not committing to a number of sessions and are free to end the sessions at any point.
Will anyone need to know I have come to see you?
No – you are under no obligation to inform anyone you have come for counselling if you do not wish to. It will not be on your medical records and you do not need to inform your GP if you do not wish to.
What do we do in the sessions?
For the most part we will listen to each other and talk freely and safely. However there are times when clients are not able to express themselves with words. In these instances I am happy to work with a range of creative solutions such as some basic art therapy techniques, listening to music or stones work. I would be delighted if you wanted to bring in any photographs that might help you connect with your feelings. I am very flexible in the way I work.
How do I access therapy through BUPA?
I will provide you with my BUPA Provider Number and you simply contact them and tell them you want to work with me. You can then contact me and we can arrange everything else between ourselves. I invoice BUPA.
